Youth Program News

We have great new ideas for this year and we'd like to share them with you every month. Your child here will continue learning with older Lao volunteers, most of wich are either alumni or students at the University of Minnesota. The Youth Program here at LAOAmerica is intended to provide grat role models for your children while engaging them in fun activities. Our volunteers are interested in giving back to the community and educating our youth in making correct decisions, thinking about higher education, and exposing them to the ideas of community service. Our volunteers are excited to work with your child. In the next pages you'll get to see who your child is working with and see what they' re studying. You will also get a chance to see them within the next few months at future events. The purpose of this letter is to inform you every month what is going on here at LAOAmerica. You'll never be wondering what your child is doing or going to do each month. We are hoping to involve the parents as much as possible in our Youth Program because it is very important that you at least know what is going on. In the next issues of this newsletter, I will arrange for it to be bilingual so that you can understand completely. If you have any questions, you can give LAO America a call or come by on any Saturday for a visit or observation. Parents are always welcome during our sessions and programming. Thanks!

Dear Parents
Program News by Danny Khotsombath
This month we are focusing on giving some of the teenagers a chance to do some civic engagement activities within the community. Community service is a very important part in learning because it builds many skills and gives participants a chance to give back to the community. We would like to involve all of our participants and will be planning a community service event in which some of the younger ones can join. It's always a good idea to start kids off young helping others, because after all, the world is becomming a smaller place. Also, as part of our program, we'd like to keep a database of all of the children that come through our doors. This is why we sent home a Registration Form/Emergency Contact for you to fill out. We care about the kids and if something were to happen, we want to contact you as easily as possible. If you haven't filled out the form, please do so as soon as possible. The volunteers and I are looking forward to a successfully fun year and hope that you take part in it too.
