Otto Bremer Foundation Funds Citizenship Classes

The Lao Advancement Organization of America has worked hard to bring the Lao community into the American political process. In recent years LAO America has been the site of voter registration events, town meetings with political leaders and the 2000 census. Most importantly, LAO America has been conducting classes for members of the Lao community who are interested in becoming United States citizens. The classes, which focus on US government and history as well as English spelling and dictation, are facilitated by Monemany Daoheuang with assistance from Mark Carroll. Until recently these classes received no public or private funding. This has changed, thanks to the Otto Bremer Foundation. They have responded to a recent funding proposal with a grant of $75,000 for a three year period. LAO America wishes to thank the Otto Bremer Foundation for their generous support.
